Earlier this week, the Pisgah/Tuscola rivalry was voted as #1 in the state of North Carolina, in a USA Today Poll. They advance to the South Regional, and voting is underway.

Here's what the USA Today says about the rivalry:

As the only two football teams in Haywood County, N.C., located roughly nine miles apart, the Pisgah-Tuscola rivalry draws nearly 10,000 fans every time they meet up. The first game was back in 1966 and the emotions of the game have only intensified over the years. It's the kind of rivalry that makes the county a ghost town for the night.

This year, Tuscola won an overtime thriller, 24-21.

Voting ends Wednesday, 12/12 at 11am. The four Regional winners advance to the finals. The overall National Champion Rivalry will receive $10,000 to be divided equally between the athletic departments of the two schools. In addition, USA Today Sports will report live on that rivalry game in 2013, and will present the schools with a trophy that will be kept each year by the winning team.
