Job perk #238, a private tour of Stingy Jack's Pumpkin Patch, before it opens to the public. For those that went last year, I'll tell you it's bigger and better this year! More things to do, more entertainment, on-site parking, and a pumpkin chunker!
The only negative to my private tour was the time of day. It wasn't dark yet, so the pics don't really do it justice. Click the one above for a gallery. They were taken on Stingy’s Twilight Trails, illuminated scenes carved from pumpkins, opening at 7 pm each night.
Stingy Jack's is open 5:30-10pm, Fri-Sun, the rest of October. It's located about 15 minutes West of the Asheville Airport. Some of what else you can expect?
- Ultimate Pumpkin Chunker.. launches pumpkins over 1/3 of a mile
- New Mysterious Enchanted Hayride.. longer, more tractors, characters along the way
- New Spooky Town Trail, Opens at 7 pm, for older children and adults, “rotten” pumpkins along the way
- Human Hamster Wheel.. 6 feet x 6 feet, $1 per try to see if you can get the wheel rolling
- Pumpkin Carving Contests with up to $1000 in prize money (total over three weekends)
- Costume Parade on the 28th
- Entertainment includes: The Ross Brothers with Terry Woody, J. Creek Cloggers (all nights), Davidson River "Taiko" ensemble drummers (Friday nights), Pisgah Dance Academy (Saturday nights), and 3rd Degree Fire Spinners (Sunday nights).
Oh yeah, the pumpkin chunker. SO cool! They'll be firing it off about every 20 minutes. Here's what I got to see.
